Come, let us listen for a while to music whose title is tranquility. Come, let us celebrate rhythms from other, more beautiful worlds. To that place where an endless spring spreads, and where bouquets of hope are born every moment—this is the journey with the Italian ensemble Rondo Veneziano, a tour through which all borders and geography are erased, and within which dream and hope are reconciled, as part of the 60th edition of the Carthage International Festival, on the evening of August 4, 2026.
Sing, violins, and carve the most beautiful stories from memory. Resound with your enchanting notes, and allow the audience a journey through history via the oldest and most delightful of languages: music. Fifteen violins wrote the musical journey, with the piano as the master of the concert and the foundation of classical music. On stage, seven female musicians graced the theatre in Baroque-era costumes, while the rest of the ensemble chose black as the colour of sovereignty and majesty. The group is distinguished in most of its performances by its visual dimension, with musicians appearing in 18th-century attire, transforming each concert into a musical and visual experience that celebrates history and the beauty of Italian artistic memory.
Their music transcends the boundaries of language, breaking every geographical limit. They offer the audience a space of hope and harmony with romantic, tranquil rhythms reminiscent of Venetian evenings, and at times, with the clamour of Rome's history. The ensemble is not merely a musical group but an experience and a cultural-historical project that has spanned generations. Maestro Gian Piero Reverberi stated during the press conference: "This concert is the last in my career as an orchestra conductor, to make way for the pianist to perhaps create new compositions." His words were like a passing of the torch, affirming that art does not stop with one generation but is a continuous journey between hands and souls.
Rondo Veneziano was founded in 1979 by composer and conductor Gian Piero Reverberi and remains to this day one of the most successful Italian musical projects internationally, having sold over 25 million records worldwide, thanks to its style that blends Venetian Baroque music with pop and contemporary sounds. It is a unique phenomenon that has managed to unite the authenticity of the past with the modernity of the present, the beauty of the classical with the spirit of the contemporary.
From Venice to Carthage—a journey through history, for place plays its role in the story. The features of Venice were present in the scenography through images displayed on screen, along with glimpses of historic palaces, as if the ensemble were inviting the Tunisian audience on a tour of the past, with all its charm, beauty, and simplicity that we often miss. The ancient theatre of Carthage itself was part of this journey, where two great civilisations met in one space, affirming that human beauty knows no borders.
Instruments are the bearers of stories, the gateway to history, and music is an essential chapter for discovering the secrets of Italy's magic. The violins excelled in the composition "The Seasons of Venice," and the soul soared with the piano as it played "Magical Encounter." As for "Mediterranean Dance," it was a blend of wind instruments and the guitar, the lady of lovers. Through music, the Carthage audience discovered "The Magic of Venice," listened to "Pearls of the East," "Moments of Magic," and "Casanova." Each piece was like a painting, transporting listeners to another era, where art was an expression of the finest aspects of the human spirit.
And because music is part of a people's identity and an evocation of glories, the ensemble performed "La Serenissima"—the historical title of Venice, meaning "the Most Serene Republic." The music was characterized by its powerful nature, reminiscent of war rhythms, with the drums shaping the composition's contours, the tones diverging, and the contemporary arrangement blending with classical rhythms inspired by the Baroque era. This piece was the highlight of the evening, where strength met beauty, and history met modernity, in a fusion that took the audience to the peak of artistic ecstasy.
On the stage of the Carthage Theatre, Rondo Veneziano wrote the most beautiful encounters between musicians and the audience. The ensemble was born from a collaboration between Reverberi and the Baby Records label, aimed at supporting young musicians graduating from Italian conservatories.
