His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Department of Culture and Director of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, inaugurated 15 solo and group exhibitions featuring works by more than 100 artists in Arabic calligraphy, Islamic ornamentation, contemporary art and photography. The exhibitions were held at Sharjah Art Museum and the Emirates Fine Arts Society, in the presence of Maysa Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, along with a large number of artists, calligraphers and Arabic calligraphy enthusiasts.
Around 200 artistic, calligraphic and photographic works were displayed across the solo and group exhibitions, collectively presenting a diverse visual landscape of Arabic calligraphy and exploring it from a contemporary perspective that extends beyond its traditional boundaries. The exhibitions included nine solo exhibitions, allowing each artist to present their individual artistic experience and aesthetic vision of the letter, alongside six group exhibitions bringing together a variety of artistic styles and approaches.
Al Owais, Al Qaseer and the attendees toured the exhibitions, viewing a collection of calligraphic, ornamental and gilded works created by more than 100 artists. They also listened to explanations from the artists about the materials, techniques and visual approaches used in their works, as well as the artistic concepts that reflect the diversity of the participating artists' experiences.
The attendees also explored some of the exhibitions' highlights, particularly works that reinterpret the beauty of Arabic calligraphy through contemporary forms, as well as those that combine letters, colours and raw materials in innovative ways.
